-- Issue #009 : September, 2010 --
– How many people are secretly watching your favorite eBay items?
Happy September to everyone! We don't send this newsletter out too often, so as usual, we've got tons of news n' happenings to share...
-- Site News --
(*) MOST BIDS
– The most requested new feature we hear from our visitors is the ability to call up eBay auctions, sorted by Most Bids
. Well, we've just completed development of such a search tool and launched it right away
. It's pretty cool, and very revealing. You can run searches as narrow as a keyword phrase ("plasma TV") or as broad as an entire category (like Antiques). You can even monitor a particular eBay seller! Searches are easily bookmarkable to instantly run again the next time. Check it out here: http://WatchCount.com/bids/
(*) LAST-MINUTE DEALS
– We took the above Most Bids search tool and turned it around, so you can uncover items with the fewest bids that are ending very soon
. What's the big deal, you ask? Whether you're a committed bargain hunter or an eBay arbitrager-reseller, you may already be on the hunt for overlooked eBay auctions that "slip between the cracks" because of poorly chosen keywords or categories. Auction items with zero (or fewest) bids closing within minutes or hours
may represent a good bunch of such items, missed by the majority of eBay shoppers and potentially available for sale at opening-bid prices. This tool works much like the Most Bids
one, being bookmarkable and configurable for keywords, categories, sellers, or a combination: http://WatchCount.com/zero/
(*) WIDGET UPDATE
– As we announced last month
, if you're an eBay seller using our free Widget
to flaunt your Watch Counts in your listings, after 2 years we're needing to require that sellers update the Widget HTML snippet/code in their listings as we transition to a better server. (Sorry!) Don't worry, the Widget isn't going away. But, if you don't swap out the code snippet within the next few weeks, you'll find that the old code will eventually stop working. All the details, including the exact cutoff date and how to get the new snippet code, can be found on our News page
(*) FREE EBOOKS
– When you signed up for this newsletter
you may have obtained one or both of Skip McGrath's helpful eBooks "eBay Secrets Mini-Course" and "44 Free eBay Wholesale Sources" that we've been giving away. We weren't always offering both books, so if you missed either of them, feel free to download them and check 'em out.
(*) WORDPRESS PLUGIN
– If you use our free eBay WordPress plugin
to display eBay items in your blog, we've got some updates for you
... v1.1.3 was released a few months ago – an optional upgrade. If you use its impression-sharing feature, know that we've boosted the placement ratio from 50% to 80%! Moreover, we're excited to learn that our plugin, hosted over at WordPress.org, has just surpassed the 1,500 download mark
in less than a year. Wahoo!
(*) 4 NEW COUNTRIES
– A few months ago we expanded WatchCount.com support to 4 new eBay country-sites: Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, and Malaysia. That means even more people can now use our free tools to identify cool stuff to buy (or sell) on eBay. And thanks to the Google Translation gadget we quietly installed, non-English visitors can get a rough, live translation of our site and the search results they call up.
(*) EBAY RADIO
– Pretty cool: the official, famed eBay Radio Show mentioned us a few months ago. You know "Griff", long-time eBay spokesperson, teacher, and radio host, right? We were flattered to have gotten some unexpected air time on the Show earlier this year as he and his co-host had a good time discovering the benefits of WatchCount.com live on the air. Another way to discover hidden eBay bargains is to look for misspelled eBay items
. Sellers sometimes goof and mistype their listing titles. As a result, most shoppers just never find those listings! Want to dig up those "hidden" items? We make it easy on you with our eBay misspelling tool
We've mentioned this once before, but you might be tickled to learn that you can find us via another web address: http://www.HowManyEyeballs.com/
-- What's Most Watched Right Now? --
With over 26,000 hits and an insane 3,240+ watchers, over on the eBay UK site is a TVR Cerbera sports car
up on the auction block with over 50 bids! It's a collector's model, custom-built for acclaimed athlete David Beckham. This has got to be the highest Watch Count I've ever seen on an active, biddable auction-style eBay listing, and it's amazing how such celebrity auctions can reel in so much publicity and interest. There are still a couple days left on this listing. http://WatchCount.com/?ec=etmp428#serp
As always, thanks for reading, and we'll see you again next issue!
