For a beginner, this is the deal. However it should be noted that the cymbals are junk and will need to be upgraded. However, most can readily recognize that prior to the purchase. The hardware is sufficient but if you're expecting Pearl quality, then buy a Pearl. Again, if you're looking for a highly affordable set, this will do it.

The joints are really bad, after a couple plays, dust start falling from the connections and knobs which eventually loosen then. The entire thing has fallen apart. The cymbals are awful, very dull. The entire product is really bad. How can I return it. Nothing holds together, the screws are constantly coming loose.

Was debating between this and the "junior" sets. I think my son is average size 11 year old (4 1/2 feet tall or so and growing quick) and it works great for him with everything lowered almost to the minimum which is great, he won't outgrow this set due to height! The set itself is fine...awesome for the money. Feels sturdy with the weakest pieces being the brackets that hold the toms to the bass drum...the main locking gear is kind of funky to get tight but once you get it right you probably won't move it anyway so it is fine. I looked at a lot of drum sets, it was my son's first set so am not sure he will play for very long and didn't want to spend a small fortune but so far he is rocking out daily on his new set! Assembly was the hardest part...it took me about 2 or 3 hours but if I had to do it again I could get it done in an hour. My advise would be to find some YouTube videos as the instruction book is pretty useless. I can easily recommend this set for the $170 or so I paid for it. I can't think of a birthday present he has liked as much in a long time.Read full review

I bought this with no great expectations. $199.00 how good could it be. I was amazed at the quality. They sound good. The cymbals are what you'd expect. But the High Hat stand is very solid so I purchased better cymbals and it's great. I recommend this set to any beginner. I've really enjoyed them. My cats not so much. 5 Stars
